What does it take to get up on a runway in front of 400 people?   The answer, of course is:  Courage.

That's why we can't think of anyone better than YOU to walk the runway.  If you are a breast cancer survivor, you already know a thing or two about courage. Your personal story is an inspiration to many people in your life.  Your family, friends, co-workers and care-givers...so many people went on that journey with you.  At "You Night", it is YOUR night to shine and celebrate.  YOUR JOURNEY is an encouragement and inspiration to others.

24 models will be chosen to walk the runway this year in designer outfits in a fun and festive party atmosphere.  You'll be pampered by local salons and boutiques, and receive professional training with the entire group of models from Celeste Hart's team at Creating U.   (Don't worry!  The other models will be just like you!... St. Tammany residents who are breast cancer survivors who are asking themselves the same thing you are right now:  "Am I brave enough to walk the runway?").  The answer of course is...YES, because after all...this is just a party that happens to have a stage going down the middle.

Last year, we had a sold out event that had 600 persons in attendance!  The event was emotional, uplifiting and celebratory!    Proceeds from this event will benefit the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at St. Tammany Parish Hospital and the Ooh La Bra "Straps for a Cause" foundation to empower women.

Frequently Asked Questions about being a
Breast Cancer Survivor Fashion Show Model

1. Do I have to be a professional model to apply to be in the fashion show?
Exactly the opposite!  You will be with 23 other women who, more than likely, have had no modeling or runway experience.  The joy in this project is that you will get behind the scenes tutoring on runway basics that will give you self-confidence, and eventually a “platform” in front of your friends, family and the community to say, “Look at me!  I’m a survivor!” – bringing hope and inspiration to the many people who have been impacted in one way or another by breast cancer.

2. What are my financial obligations if I say yes to being a model?
There is no cost for being a model, as this evening will be all about honoring those who are selected.  While we anticipate dozens of applicants, we are limited to 24 participants.  Therefore, we ask that you complete this questionnaire as thoroughly as possible, understanding that if you are selected, you are obligating yourself to the dates listed to the right.

HOWEVER – NOTE:  While there is no direct cost to you, you will be required to sell ten tickets to the event at the discounted "Model Friends and Family Rate" of $100 each. It will surprise you how many people will want to come see you on the runway, once you let them know you are modeling. You will learn the details of selling your tickets at an introductory meeting for all the chosen models (see schedule on the right).

3. What’s in it for me?  Being a model is fun, uplifting, and a one time only experience. You will serve as an inspiration to the audience, and you will create memories and friendships that you will cherish for the rest of your life.  You will receive:

  • One-on-one personal instruction from Creating U Movie, Model & Fashion Training Academy in Covington, operated by Celeste Hart (see bio attached).

  • Professional hair and makeup styling

  • A professional head shot and group shot

  • You will be outfitted by local fashion boutiques (clothing is not free, but will be available to you at a reduced cost by the sponsoring salon).

4. How much time will be required if I am selected to model?
Please see the commitment schedule (listed on the right) before applying.

If you submit this application, you are agreeing to attend all meetings listed.

Meetings:  In order to insure for a well-produced, organized and fun fashion show, all models will be asked to attend six mandatory preparatory meetings, plus one pre-event rehearsal. Unless otherwise indicated, all meetings will take place at:

Creating U Modeling, Runway and Filmmaking Academy
(69154 Hwy 190 E. Service Road, Covington).

Additionally, each model will be assigned to a sponsoring boutique for your outfits, and you will be required to visit the boutique to get select your runway outfit with the boutique owner.

5. Do I get to keep the clothes I model?
No, but you may purchase the fashions you model.

6. If I apply to be a model, how will I know if I am selected?
It is helpful if you are or have been a patient of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at St. Tammany Parish Hospital, as this is an outreach for their organization.  A “Model Selection Committee” will meet to review the applications. Breast cancer survivors are selected to represent diversity of age, number of years as a survivor, ethnicity and size. Applicants not selected will be encouraged to apply the following year.  Applicants not selected are encouraged to attend this event.
